Gifted singer’s voice breaks monotony of cricket
Faisalabad’s claim to fame may not be cricket stars but it has given to Pakistan as well as rest of the world one of the most gifted singers from the sub-continent. The late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan whose very own brand of classical and Sufi music made him popular across the world was born here.
His old house- where he was brought up stands just a few meters away from the Iqbal stadium- locked and in a dilapidated state. His wife and daughter live in the city in another house. The town council hall is named after the legend and is adjacent to the stadium. Nusrat songs in drink intervals and during lunch and tea breaks are staple diet.
