i can see why this is *liked*, but is it his finest moment?

nopes… generally speaking it’s the *organic*, free flowing live stuff that feeds off his audience that really resonates with me. on top of that, the music is not the *point*, it’s his voice - it should be there to *compliment* not be a *competing* element (which in this piece is imho).

i do like the range and it does highlight his capabilities, but it lacks the *energy* and *soul* of his live/concert recordings.

overall, a very good listen and a big thank you to the staff here at the website… it’s fantastic.

This is brilliant, of course, but not among Nusrat’s finest works,I’m afraid. Nusrat is at his best during those moments when music truly roars out of is soul at the crescendo of a tremendous qawwali… How can anybody suggest Nusrat’s finest work is a mere love lyric such as this? Sufis are at their best only when they sing of Him!

The Ghosts of Nusrat: Dub Qawwali…

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has a new CD out. While that may seem unlikely, given that he passed away ten years ago, it’s true. Italian/British producer Gaudi took old master tapes from the early 1970s in the possession of Nusrat’s original Pakis…

[…] I’ve never been a fan of ghazals (probably because I have a less than adequate grasp of the language(s)) but I came across this simple classic which is really beautiful. It’s considered to be one of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s finest. Listen to it here. […]

  24. September 13th, 2007 | 6:27 pm

This sure is one of the classics of his.

Apart from the technical details of the music or the poetry certain aspects of any performance remains covered or hidden like the sentiments, feelings or emotions of the performer. So, its really hard to give a verdict and I personally believe that its not possible for us to decide about any of someones’ work to be his or her best as the right rests with one who performs and the one, for whom it has been performed.

So, as Vandana very nicely pointed out in the preceding comments that “Sufis are at their best when they sing of Him”, though I would have preferred ‘for’ in place of ‘of’ but what ever the case may be, and as the Sufi is supposed to have déjà surrendered his will, the right to decide the best, rests with Him. Thus, no one knows if the epoch of one’s carrier was the last of his/her offering or an award instead.

I love Nusrat, his music is out of this world. When being introduced to Nusrat in my early 20’s I fell in love with him immediately and have been a big fan since.

I am now 29, till this day listening to his music gives me chills up and down my spine that’s how special his music is.

There is no artist other than Celine Dionne that can give me chills like Nusrat does becasue their music is real from the heart.

Nothing can be better than music coming from your heart.

Even though you’re not here physically Nusrat, you’re here always in our hearts and thoughts and in every day life.

You give us the power to believe in our dreams no matter what religion and culture you are as long as you fight for what you believe in.

Thank you and peace be upon you. Love you always, Shy

This man is such a ray of hope! i’m learning classical music and at times when i want to give up! his voice and music just makes my soul want to carry on! i must admit i never understood the true meaning of his music untill i learn music and understood what he was doing with raags! after all the enough and time he put into music, it all paid off with the legend he is! I feel so lucky to come from knowing nothing to knowing a little something and if his music and my Ustadji wasnt there! i would be the believer i am!

    My message:
if i could turn back time… i would want to be one of that person who was by yourside, learning…. but..now.. when i listen to your music i feel i am. how can your music have such a power???
